2017 vintage notes
94 points Vinous: "Highly perfumed, mineral- and spice-tinged red berry, cherry and incense aromas carry a suave floral nuance. Seamless and animated on the palate, offering intense raspberry, bitter cherry, spicecake and rose pastille flavors and a touch of succulent herbs on the back half. Finishes silky, spicy and impressively long, displaying excellent clarity and fine-grained tannins that lend gentle grip."
2015 vintage notes
94 points Vinous: "Spice-accented raspberry and cherry aromas, along with a powerful floral topnote that gains power as the wine opens up. Silky and energetic on the palate, offering alluringly sweet, sharply delineated red fruit, spicecake and rose pastille flavors that show a suave blend of depth and litheness. Fine-grained tannins build slowly on a very long, spice-tinged finish that shows excellent clarity and a zesty mineral quality."
For all the love Jason professed to the other sites, it was at Roland Green that he fawned over the perfect nature of Pinot noir ripening here, the Goldilocks vineyard, “a near perfect site” as Eyrie states. As he explained, it’s at this elevation that a conundrum happens -- the actual ripening of the grapes slows yet the wines can taste riper because of their darker nature. The tannins are slightly more pronounced (in an Eyrie way, meaning they are still silky), and there’s gorgeous depth and refinement to every aspect of the wine. Planted in 1989, at 540 to 720 feet, named after David’s father, Roland Green Lett. - Marcus
