2016 vintage notes
By leaps and bounds, the single best Horsetail Pinot noir since the boys' first vintage, 2007. The most refined Horsetail (age does that to us), it still embodies a fuller, richer style. Packed with intricately woven layers of fruit, moving from black cherry to a mix of Oregon wild berries, we love its superb length that balances freshness and flavor sweetness. Finish it off with a shaving of creme brulee top and you have have an absolutely delicious Pinot. We highly recommend it! - Marcus
For those who don't recall Horsetail, it is a label started in 2007 by the Etzel boys -- Jared, Mike, and Nathan -- the three sons of Michael Etzel, founding winemaker of Beaux Freres. The boys have grown into professionals: Jared is now winemaker at prestigious newcomer Domaine Roy; Mike is winemaker at Beaux Freres; Nathan contributes his engineering talents. While they are busy making some of the highest-end Willamette Valley Pinots by day, they've continued to deliver a stunning Pinot value in Horsetail, even more evident with this awesome 2016.
