Relative newcomer Prospice nailed it with this new Bordeaux-style blend: great fruit, texture, balance, and value. More dark red than black fruit, an excellent pairing of full-flavored fruit and savory accents, we’re confident this will immediately win you over and you’ll be ordering more with your club discount!
We always enjoyed Washington wine expert Sean Sullivan’s reviews for Wine Enthusiast. Except, he tended to be overly conservative with his scoring. That’s another story for another time but he gave Meravina ‘19 91 points and an “Editors’ Choice” designation–we’ll note, the same review and designation he gave to Leonetti Merlot 2019 which is three times the price: “A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, the aromas offer notes of fresh, savory herb, flower, carob and dark cherry. The flavors are graceful, polished and fresh. It's a complete delight and exceptionally well priced.”
From Prospice: A new wine for us–"Meravina" is from the Latin terms merum (pure) and vinum (wine) This is our Bordeaux-variety daily drinker, and combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot into a tasty and delightful everyday wine. This wine will fool you into thinking you've opened a much more expensive bottle! And it should taste good, as this isn't second class wine at all -- it gets all the same Prospice love and attention as the rest of our wines, it just happens to be the last thing we blend from the barrels that didn't make it into our primary wines. Tuesday night? Go right ahead and open this baby.
The 2019 Meravina is a pretty and dense garnet red in the glass, and the nose is complex–delicate sniffs will reveal some red-fruited brightness, while a deeper breath will reveal violets, cassis, orange peel, mocha, fig, tobacco, and lots of juicy dark fruits. The palate opens with juicy red plum and currant, and broadens into an expansive midpalate with floral notes, anise, black plum, and espresso. There’s enough tannin here to provide weight and structure, but it’s never aggressive, and the finish is long, and pleasing with subtle barrel hints (perhaps surprising given the very restrained oak profile).
Our name “Prospice,” from the Latin for “look to the future,” represents both our belief in the inherently optimistic and forward-looking nature of wine and winemaking and our respect for their deeply rooted traditions. The clean, modern lines of the Prospice name in our logo sit in counterpoint to the lower rendering of the same name in ancient Etruscan characters (read from right to left), signifying this dichotomy of future and past.
