The winemaker and the label: Luke Jefferson is a winery very (very) few have heard of. But the winemaker behind it is famous—a Willamette Valley legend: Steve Doerner, the winemaker who made Cristom a household name among Pinot-philes. More than a decade ago, Steve and his wife started a tiny personal label, Luke Jefferson, named partly for their son and partly as an homage to Thomas Jefferson.

The vineyard: LS Vineyards, by name, elicits a shrug. But when we tell you LS stands for Larry Stone, the founder of Lingua Franca, and that LS Vineyards is Lingua Franca's estate, whoa, different story altogether.
