94 points Paul Gregutt: "A very fine Freedom Hill, loaded with bright cherry fruit, backed with clean earth and ripe tannins. Rich and perfectly structured, this is a terrific complement to the Croft bottling from a nearby-vineyard. The Mount Pisgah AVA is new and may be unfamiliar, but these vineyards, in a southwest corner of the Willamette valley, have long and esteemed histories. This is forward and fruit-driven, fresh and balanced, with enough depth to cellar well for a decade or more."
94 points Vinous: "Youthfully coy, mixing dried flowers with nuances of autumnal spice and lavender pastille. Refined and floral in character, it offers silken textures and depths of savory wild berry fruit that coat the senses in primary concentration. The finish shows dramatic length and structure as fine-grained tannins flex upon the senses, leaving liquid violet tones to echo."
A famous Willamette Valley vineyard, Freedom Hill occupies a special perch within the Haden Fig lineup: it is both the richest and most structured of their single vineyard Pinot Noirs. Dense, heavenly black fruits vibrate with intensity while notes of cherry flourish—think the plump ones of summer and your great uncle's cherry pipe tobacco. There's so much wonderful fruit to love in vintage '23, plus classic Willamette fresh-turned earth and hints of Freedom Hill saline minerality. 100% Pommard clone.
2022 vintage notes
There's something special about the '22 vintage in the Haden Fig cellar. We first tasted it in the base-model Willamette Valley Pinot noir, which we called "dive-in delicious— the best vintage of Haden Fig Willamette Valley Pinot in ages." The same praise applies to their Freedom Hill single vineyard—YUM!
This is so inviting right away: the raspberry and black cherry flavors have an extra supple creaminess to them. Fresh earth and lovely minerality comes out with more air but this remains focused on delicious fruit.
This showcases the small 1 acre parcel of 28 year-old Pommard clone in the famous Freedom Hill Vineyard.
