92+ points Wine Advocate: "I tasted the 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo from vat but am giving it a final score because the wine had been taken out of wood and was just about to go into the bottle when I visited the estate. This wine shows deep, lasting and increased aromatic intensity that really points to the quality levels achieved with Nebbiolo in 2016. Bottle production of this wine is greatly reduced because more fruit was moved up to the production of top-shelf Barolo instead. The wine is compact, firm and tight, but it also offers lots of inner energy and brightness. Fruit from the youngest vines ends up in the Langhe Nebbiolo. Cavallotto plans to make greater volumes of this wine in 2017."
Well...I already have a 6-pack in my cellar (make that 5. Baby Barolo, from the monumental 2016 vintage ("nearly perfect for Nebbiolo" according to Cavallotto). The breadth and power of Nebbiolo marries with texture, freshness and sweetness for earlier drinking. Load up. - Marcus
The cool 2016 growing season was nearly perfect for Nebbiolo; our Nebbiolo Langhe is a good indication of the quality of this vintage. Classic aromas and flavors of black cherry and roses dominate the nose and palate, with a mid-weight structure, tannic but with a long, supple finish. This wine is made for earlier consumption and does not require extended ageing, even though it comes from fruit grown entirely inside the Barolo zone. - Cavallotto
