94 points Vinous: "Youthfully intense, the 2022 Chardonnay burst from the glass with flinty stone and dusty dried herbs, complicating green apples and hints of incense. This is round and surprisingly supple yet complex, with brisk acidity and citrus-laced pit fruits that take on a more tactile feel as crunchy minerals settle in toward the close. A lemony concentration lingers over a gentle tug of fine tannin as a note of sage resonates. In a word—stunning."
Us: Within the thousands (yes, literally thousands) of new Oregon wine reviews that hit in summer of 2024, Vincent’s Chardonnay is within the actual handful of head-turning values. 94 points from the more conservative-scoring Vinous, with a single-word recap of “stunning,” is about all you need to know. We love it and know you will, too. Lemony brightness meets yellow pear, all with a richness you can sink into. The texture and completeness gained from the extended aging wowed us immediately. This has the cut and verve a Chard geek will love and the delicious drinkability to win over your neighbors/in-laws (and you). An outstanding achievement by Vincent–kudos!
Vincent: The latest edition of our flagship Chardonnay, aged 18 months in mostly older barrels (one new among six), comes from an own-rooted, late 1980s planting in Dion Vineyard in the Laurelwood District AVA. Pure yellow fruited Chardonnay without butteriness. Bright acidity, a racy edge to the fruit. Clean and long, perfect for seafood and pasta.
Owner/winemaker Vincent Fritzsche launched the winery in 2009 after years of apprenticing in wineries in Oregon and California. He’s all about low-input wine making, working with several sustainably-farmed vineyards around the Willamette Valley to produce small amounts of handmade wine without a lot of fuss.
Vincent Wine Company is named for many things. It is Vincent’s name, of course. It was also the name of his uncle and maternal grandfather. But, really, the name pays homage to the 4th century Saint Vincent of Saragossa, Spain, the patron saint of vintners. He was adopted centuries ago by the Burgundians, makers of Pinot noir and Chardonnay, our grapes. Each year on or around January 22, they celebrate his feast day with the legendary Fête de la Saint Vincent.
