It's fitting that we return to the winery's origin: Maresh Vineyard Chardonnay. A handful of our readers recall the thrill of discovering Jim Arterberry Maresh's first release: 2005 Maresh Chard. Chardonnay is and has always been Jim's favorite grape. Practically ever since that first release, we've said "if you don't know Jim's Chardonnay you don't know Jim."

More of our long-time Arterberry Maresh fans will recall Jim's 2008 Maresh Chardonnay, a mind-boggling wine unlike any other he's produced since. Until today, that is.

From a small block of Wente clone Chardonnay planted in 1983, while Jim's mother Martha was carrying him—talk about returning to origins, it was preordained that Jim would one day turn those grapes into magical liquid gold.

Us: Jim Maresh's masterpiece. While this indeed reminds us of the 2008, it is a better wine, an evolution in style and balance. The texture is full and rich, even hedonistically so (see below for other apt descriptors) but it is also mouthwateringly fresh and bright. Honestly, it's kind of crazy and we remain stunned by what we tasted and experienced.

Believe it or not, there's more—it can be your more "normal" Chardonnay companion, too. We tried pairing with lobster mac n' cheese, Shandong beef, roasted chicken with simple spring greens. They were all magic. Don't miss your own chance at magic.
