95 points Paul Gregutt: "Tasting this blind you might easily assume you’re drinking a wine costing double, even triple the price tag. Phinny Hill overlooks Champoux from a higher elevation. The vines are coming into real maturity now, and the wine brings both depth and power via its polished, ripe and firm tannins. The cassis fruit is deepened with accents of mocha, cut tobacco and sweet spice; these highlights carry down the palate through a long finish. Cellar this? Of course, but drink a bottle or two before stashing the rest of the case. 100 cases."

We’ve written extensively about Champoux vineyard and its glorified status as Washington’s best Cabernet vineyard. But what about its neighbors? Sineann winemaker Peter Rosback certainly has an opinion. “The wines off this site are spectacular,” he states.

Phinny Hill overlooks Champoux and as Sineann’s winemaker Peter adds, “frankly, it should be a better site–sitting as it is on a hillside–than Champoux.” Paul Champoux is assisting the Beightol family with Sineann’s portion of the vineyard and as Peter continues, “I’ve often maintained that vineyard management is as important as terroir. Pay attention as we put that assertion to the test.”

Well we’ve put Sineann’s 2022 Phinny Hill Cab to our own test–the smell and taste test! There’s so much to love: the initial creamy-velvety-supple delivery of beautiful cassis, the way it evolves with air to include black cherry galette (something my favorite wines of the neighborhood have included through the years), its downright yummy accents of cedar and tobacco. Echoing what Paul says below, sure you can cellar what you re-order after tasting your club bottle but get this puppy in your glass and sip on it over an evening or two.
