Within all of Oregon and Washington, this is the year's single most exciting and consequential winery debut: the personal label of Craig Williams' incredible X Novo and X Omni vineyards.

Most exciting because we have tasted, contemplated, compared, and savored in the moment and in memory his spectacular 2019 Chardonnay. Most consequential (and also exciting!) because this is only the beginning—when you mix Craig's experience and curiosity with two of the best vineyards in the country, the big beautiful sky is the limit.

Craig's X Novo and X Omni vineyards are synonymous with excellence in Oregon Chardonnay. Among the actual handful of Oregon's best Chardonnays, two (Walter Scott and Morgen Long, respectively) are from his vineyards. Coincidence? Of course not. Now we add a third: Craig's personal label, X Novo.

Craig's winemaking and winegrowing resumé in the Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast is nearly unrivaled—he spent 32 years at Joseph Phelps, accumulating multiple 100 point scores and even Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year—yet he approaches those endeavors in the Willamette Valley with a refreshing modesty and palpable desire to continue learning. X Novo, like its meaning, signals Craig's new beginning in the Willamette Valley. There's so much more to write and to say–the first chapter is here today, and we are honored and genuinely thrilled to share it with you.
