95+ points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Perigee Estate Seven Hills Vineyard reveals a Cabernet-driven style offering beautiful cassis fruits as well as tobacco leaf, wet stone, spring flowers, and freshly sharpened pencils. These all carry over to the palate, where the wine is medium to full-bodied and has a focused, concentrated, elegant texture, lots of ripe tannins, and a great finish. Young and unevolved at this stage (not unexpected), it will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and have 20+ years of prime drinking. It's a beautiful, classic Bordeaux blend from Washington that does everything right. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot and Malbec, all brought up in 40% new French oak."

2014 vintage notes

With regal structure and elegant purity, beautifully unfurling black and red fruits, coffee, graphite and cocoa accents that play nicely through powder-fine tannin, L'Ecole's 2014 Perigee is our kind of red blend. The balance is commendible, owing partly to the winery's style and certainly to the terrific 2014 vintage (have we mentioned how much we're loving Washington '14s? We do!). 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 5 % Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec. - Marcus

L'Ecole's Perigee Estate captures the essence of Seven Hills Vineyard’s characteristic rich elegance, seductive aromas and earthy structure. L’Ecole has sourced from Seven Hills Vineyard since 1993; they select the oldest and most distinguished blocks to produce one of the winery's flagships.

94 points Wine Advocate: "A true blockbuster from this estate is the 2014 Perigee Seven Hills Vineyard Estate and it’s 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. It offers killer notes of blackberries, cassis, crushed rocks and graphite, with a mineral-laced, full-bodied, concentrated style on the palate. Impeccably balanced, with terrific purity and building tannin, drink it anytime over the coming decade or two."

95 points Decanter World Wine Awards 2017: "“Quite full, ample and powerful with a fine but firm chassis of tannins and inviting blueberry and herbal flavours. An engaging wine with more than a little presence.

93 points Vinous, Stephen Tanzer: "Pretty perfume of cassis, black cherry, lavender, licorice and cedar. Large-scaled, velvety and dry; conveys a sweeter, more pliant impression than most of the foregoing wines, no doubt partly due to the silky richness of the Merlot component, but also boasts terrific vinosity. Inky blackberry and violet flavors are complicated by minerality. Suave, fine-grained tannins arrive late and harmonize well with the wine's ripe acidity. I find this a bit sweeter and richer today than the 2013 was at the same stage."

Our Wine Advice

Life's too short to drink bad wine.

We taste as much or more Oregon wine in a given year than anyone on the planet. We look for the needles in the haystacks, the wines you won't find in your local wine store. Wineries have long sought our help to sell their most limited, unique bottlings.

We are picky. We like to sell wines that we like to drink. We refer to taste the wines sell over several days; we want to know how a wine will evolve, how it pairs with food. We want to know if it truly belongs in your cellar, in your glass, and we want to provide you with guidance on how and when it'll be its best.

Our goal is to describe wines in ways that you can actually relate to. We battle against overly flowery tasting notes. You know the kind. The ones that mention things that no one has ever smelled or tasted. They're mostly B.S. and they perpetuate snobbery that we don't like.

We give you the unfiltered truth about a wine.We believe wine isn't one-size-fits-all. We get to know your tastes and preferences so that we can recommend the right wines for you.

Testimonials

Avalon is a gem. The wine selection is both excellent and expertly curated. Better yet, Marcus and Andy invest the time to get to know their customers personally. So their recommendations fit you like a well-tailored suit (just more reasonably priced!).

Marcus and Andy's knowledge of the wines, wineries and winemakers of the area is encyclopedic and, in my experience, second to none. They have a comprehensive understanding of the inner workings of the industry and a knack for recommending wines that are 'in my wheelhouse,' but also the insight to direct me toward new discoveries. I wholeheartedly recommend them to both those in the know and those who would
like to be.

Andy and Marcus only sell wines they would drink themselves, they sell them at reasonable prices, and they take exceptionally good care of their customers. Ethics, value, service…the reasons we buy all our wine from Avalon.

These guys do an outstanding job of sourcing great wines at terrific prices. Their reviews are fun to read and quite on point without all of the nonsense. Whose ever tasted squirrel dung or asphalt anyway? Get on their email list and savor the experience; then tell a friend. That's how I became a dedicated customer of Avalon Wine.
