One of the best aspects of being located in Portland (compared to our previous Corvallis location) is our access to winemakers like Vincent Fritzsche. And in this case, “access” means we get tiny production wines that we wouldn’t have otherwise seen, like Vincent’s Gamay.
Oregon Gamay is increasing in popularity and we’re pleased with the stylistic diversity from so (relatively) few producers. Perhaps our favorite and one of the best values, Vincent’s is what we want in Gamay: a fruit quality that you can describe as “crunchy,” lip smacking acidity, a delightful freshness. Vincent utilizes the same techniques he uses for Pinot noir; his Gamay is fully destemmed, with no carbonic maceration.
