Nicolas-Jay Red Vinyl Pinot noir 2015

Aromatically deep, dark and ultimately inviting, elements of sweet and fresh fruit, very multi spectrum, with shades of red, blue and black and really, the best of each. Much brighter in character than you'd expect from the nose, weaving in a savory and utterly charming wine-ness -- flavors you taste only in a handful of grapes and most notably, Pinot noir.

Like an opening band, this begins with catchy material and wastes no time playing the hits. There's some showing off to be done, a modicum of restraint to be respected, but you want to leave it all out there. And you, the audience, DO NOT miss the show.

From Associate Winemaker Tracy Kendall: "Red Vinyl is a selection of barrels that were more red fruited, more accessible and fruit-forward than the Willamette Valley. The idea was to make a wine for drinking and enjoying sooner rather than one focused on aging.

Our single vineyards, Willamette Valley, and Red Vinyl are made the exact same way up until the blending process. Rather than source less expensive fruit at lower quality we are using only the best sites in the valley and hand-crafting the wines through the entire harvest, fermentation and aging process. Theoretically this wine is a STEAL at the price."

A partnership between Jean-Nicolas Méo, owner and winemaker of famed Burgundian winery Domaine Méo-Camuzet and longtime friend Jay Boberg, one of the most influential music entrepreneurs of the last several decades, Nicolas-Jay has exceeded our expectations and softened our cynical edge. We highly recommend you check them out.
