The fruit for this cuvée comes from one of the oldest vineyards in Oregon. It has rocky, Jory soil and slopes to the east directly above the town of Hopewell, not too far from our Lingua Franca vineyard. It was hard to work with and we almost called it sol méchant or mean ground. It has turned out much nicer after 14 months in barrel. Medium weight, red and black fruit with plum dumpling and spice. Dark undercurrents of smoke, tar, flint and roasted meat. Round, smooth with some sweet jammy notes.
Foods: cassoulet, pot-au-feu, plateau saucisson fromage, gulyásleves (goulasch stewed soup), beef stroganoff, dim sum, Peking duck, beef stew, cholent, pulled pork, Jamaican jerk pork, pork or beef larb, beef phở with tendon, brisket, pastrami, smoked tongue.
