"This Maresh bottling is the most expressive of my three Maresh 2017 bottlings. Please note, though, that all of my 2017’s are on the refined and subtle side, much like my 2007’s or 2011’s. It is produced from the fruit of two blocks I’ve been working in personally for over ten years. I’ve come to deeply love these old vines (1970 franc de pied) in a way words can’t express.
Nine barrels from both the Long Rows (my most self-regulating and queenly block-next to the century old stand of walnut trees) and the Old Block (my most wild and spirited block at Maresh) comprise this bottling. The 2017 is a transparent, light-medium red that is full of light and shimmering facets. The hue will deepen over time. The nose has incredible perfume for its youth. This Maresh is, as always, full of Oregon Hood strawberry character, with hints of spice. This is a serious beauty that time will reward. The mouth has the classic silk of Maresh with plenty of movement and fluidity. It has winged character and verticality in the Bachelardian sense (Gaston Bachelard “Air and Dreams” 1943). The finish is everlasting." - KF
