The final vintage of Maresh Pinot Noir from Kelley, a beautiful swan (or sparrow?) song worthy of celebration. Oregon's special Hood strawberry, intricate spice and fir forest accents, shimmering and silken. Authoritative with a whisper.

Many years ago, while staying on the Maresh farm one night during harvest, I heard a songbird in one of Jim Maresh Sr.’s sequoias singing in minor keys just before first light. It took years to learn what this bird was. I had listened to countless songbird recordings to find it. Well, it was the Golden-Crowned sparrow. These lovely sparrows migrate south at night along the Pacific from Alaska and Western Canada in the fall.

The Maresh Golden 2023 is light medium red with youthful blue and purple undertones. It is brilliantly transparent, and the light is faceted like a gemstone. The nose is filled with perfectly ripe Hood strawberries and red raspberries with subtle spices and minerals. There is a feeling of immensely appealing freshness. The mouth follows suit and with more intensity and stuffing than it would appear in the glass. Juicy and mouthwatering, it’s loaded with deliciousness. The 2023 is finely structured with detailed tannins and a silky long finish. All of the good things I loved about the Maresh farm over the many years are in here. 2023 was my final vintage of this wine.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0840/5679/files/2023-maresh-vineyard-golden-crowned-sparrow-blocks-pinot-noir-1757009845625.jpg?v=1788469485
https://northwest-wine.com/products/kelley-fox-maresh-vineyard-golden-crowned-sparrow-blocks-pinot-noir
