2015 vintage notes
93 point Vinous, Josh Raynolds: "Expansive, seductively perfumed red fruit liqueur, potpourri and Asian spice scents, along with deeper cola and licorice notes in the background. Seamless, sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering plush raspberry and cherry preserve and spicecake flavors that become more energetic as the wine airs out. The spice and floral notes drive an impressively long, lively finish that's given gentle grip by smooth, harmonious tannins."
When we learned that young Jackson Holstein had bottled up 44 cases of Murto 2015, tasting it for inclusion in the club was more a formality. We'd really enjoyed his first wines (2014s, then his early release Farmhouse Cuvee 2015) and like his approach to winemaking. And we love Murto Vineyard, nestled in the Dundee Hills along Worden Hill Road, a stones throw from several of our other favorite vineyards (Maresh and Abbey Ridge, to name two).
To say that Jackson's '15 Murto didn't disappoint would be to undersell it, grossly. It's a beautiful, subtle expression of the vineyard that shows classic Murto spice right when opened, then becomes uber-silky and sultry the more air it sees. We first tried it on a Thursday afternoon; I finished the bottle Saturday night and it was so compelling I ordered the club wine that night (thanks, email)! - Marcus
