94 points Vinous: Glistening ruby-red. A hugely perfumed bouquet displays an array of ripe red and blue fruit, exotic spice and floral pastille qualities, along with hints of musky underbrush, smoky minerals and hoisin sauce. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, which offers sweet boysenberry, candied plum, spicecake and dark chocolate flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Manages to smoothly balance power and delicacy and finishes with outstanding clarity and youthfully tannic persistence.
We don’t hide our fondness for Eola-Amity Hills’ Temperance Hill Vineyard. One of the finest and most distinct vineyards on the West Coast, expertly, organically farmed by Dai Crisp, utilized by many of our favorite Willamette Valley wineries. Speaking with the wineries who are fortunate enough to source from Temperance Hill, each one mentions how grateful they are to work with Dai and to craft beautiful wines from the vines he tends.
Temperance Hill is a high-elevation site that experiences directly the influences of the Van Duzer Corridor, which brings cool ocean breezes through a gap in the Coast Range. Those breezes are especially important in warm vintages like 2014; wines retain verve and freshness because of the acidity maintained by cool evenings and nights.
