Cooper Mountain Tocai Friulano 2015
The esoteric grape of Tocai Friulano is also known as Sauvignon Vert, cousin to much more prolific Sauvignon Blanc. Tocai Friulano is the dominant white wine in the Friuli region of Northeastern Italy, although its origins begin in France to Chile and back to Italy. Tocai Friulano is often confused with the Hungarian Tokaji although they are not related and the Hungarian Tokaji is typically vinified as a dessert wine. Tocai Friulano is a transition between Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay on the palate richness scale.
Cooper Mountain’s story with the grape begins in 2004 when we planted 2.5 acres of the grape in our warmer Chehalem Mountains AVA site. The wine is an aromatic treat with peaches, mineral, citrus and a hint of spice. The rich, dry palate exhibits honeysuckle and cool melon and finishes with nicely integrated acids. A perfect wine partner for shellfish and curry.
