Belle Pente refers to this wine as their "best of the best." We've reviewed our notes and racked our memories for every vintage we've tasted—2018 is the best "best of the best." This defines the term "Reserve" in a couple of ways: it is a special wine to cherish, collect, and savor. And it has an exponential dimension "in reserve," more of everything: aromatics, flavor layers, textural depth, ability to age. But an extra reason we love it—you get the more-of-everythingness now, not in multiple years of cellaring—so you really can have it both ways.

Outlandishly delicious, a rainbow of red, blue, and black tones weaves with licorice, sweet spices, and floral accents. To know winegrower Brian O'Donnell is to know he is emphatically not a hype-guy; he's soft-spoken and modest. Still, Brian is an obvious fan of his 2018s and even he readily says that this 2018 Estate Reserve is one of the all-time greats.

2017 vintage notes

95 points Vinous: "Mineral- and spice-accented red and blue fruit, cola, incense and succulent floral qualities on the highly perfumed nose. Juicy, appealingly sweet black raspberry, mulberry and cherry flavors show very good depth as well as energy and pick up a candied rose nuance on the back half. Finishes impressively long and smooth, displaying slowly building tannins and resonating floral and mineral character. 12% whole clusters."
