2018 vintage notes
96 points Jeb Dunnuck. The "Old Vines" Cabernet (originally "Dedication Series") has been in production since the bonding of the winery in 1981. Primary sourcing has always come from the oldest blocks of Champoux and Sagemoor Vineyards, some of the oldest cabernet blocks in the state. The 1987 vintage was the first Washington wine to be on Wine Spectator’s Top 10 list. This is a full-bodied cabernet and will typically age well with proper cellar conditions, 15+ years from vintage. Produced and bottled at Woodward Canyon Winery.
Previous vintage notes
One of Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections from 2017: One of the state's best bottles year after year, this delivers herb, blackberry, woodspice and vanilla bean aromas. The palate is tightly wound and impeccably balanced, with a mixture of fruit and barrel flavors that show depth. Made with the future in mind, it will be best from 2025–2032.
There are hundreds of Washington Cabs, but only a handful boast the amazing pedigree of Woodward Canyon's "Old Vines." From the original plantings of Cabernet in Champoux (1972), Sagemoor (1972), and Woodward Canyon Estate (1977), this is truly exquisite Cab, rivaling anything made on the West Coast. Dense and plush, with superb structure, it should age extraordinarily well. I just drank an '03 WWC Old Vines from my cellar and it was still fresh and vibrant. 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. - Marcus
This “Old Vines” Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant and complex yet shows the sophistication, balance and structure that come from decades of working with the same fabulous vineyards. It expresses the purity and typicity of fully mature Cabernet Sauvignon that can only be achieved from old vine fruit. The color is dark purple with elevated aromas of earth, spice, black fruits (Petit Verdot) and leather. Flavors of black fruits and cassis blend beautifully with the exotic spice of new oak. The texture is soft but firm with integrated tannins offering a rich, lingering finish. With proper storage this wine should easily age fifteen years or more.
