WOW! Belle Pente's New Releases, Do Not Miss Them!

The low-key nature of Belle Pente reflects the personalities of its proprietors, Brian and Jill O'Donnell. They skip the fancy tasting room and flashy marketing making them an "insider" findand focus instead on delivering fantastic Pinot values. They've been an unabashed favorite of ours for well over a decade but these new releases, WOW!, even we're surprised.

It's easy to gush over the Willamette Valley blend because of its price tag, but of equally astounding value are Belle Pente's 2016 single vineyard Pinots, which are the most attractive young Belle Pente Vineyard and Murto Pinots we can recall tasting. Their texture and feel is damn near perfectsilky, voluminous, caressing, irresistibly good. Balancing Brian and Jill's low-keyedness, we're jumping up and down, waving our arms, reaching through cyberspace to urge you to get these wines! DO NOT MISS THEM.

This perennial outstanding value goes up a notch in 2018, making it their best Willamette Valley in years. The WV is what Belle Pente is all about: over-delivering on incredible Pinot noir. The '18 takes this bottling's juicy, lively style and stretches it on both ends of the spectrum–it's even yummier than normal yet also more complex and complete.

If there's such a thing as a "universally attractive" Willamette Valley Pinot, this has to be it. It has fruit-forwardness, body, and texture plus aromatic complexity and a pure Pinot finish. I absolutely love it! - Marcus

Brian and Jill: "Overall yields were down 30% from the bumper crop of 2015, resulting in very concentrated wines with great flavor authority. As would be expected from a warm year, especially one with a small crop, the 2016 wines offer plenty of intensely concentrated forward fruit flavors and aromas. Yet they somehow retain an underlying freshness and sense of balance. They are ripe, compelling wines that are a delight now, and will gain complexity as they shed their “baby fat” with some time in the cellar.

True to it’s Yamhill-Carlton appellation, the wine shows ripe blueberry and blackberry flavors and aromas, with a hint of licorice and violets. A high single digit dose of whole clusters (about 8%) contributes aromatic nuance and textural complexity, making this one of the most intriguing renditions or our flagship estate Pinot to date! Enjoy now and over the next dozen years with rich dishes featuring wild mushrooms, big birds, or small mammals.

Belle Pente’s Murto bottling has been one of our go-to Oregon Pinots for years. Murto’s signature is its red fruit and savory spice which in 2016 is met with a textural brilliance I simply can't remember tasting in a previous Murto. It's irresistibly good. - Marcus

Brian and Jill: "We’ve been making single vineyard Pinot Noir from Mike and Robin Murto's outstanding old vines (planted in 1978) for over 20 years. Although this mature vineyard delivers the goods every year, it’s high elevation Dundee Hills location makes it really shine in warm vintages, and this 2016 rendition is a classic “case in point”!

The signature Murto profile includes red fruit and spice. This 2016 version reflects it’s warm growing season with intense ripe raspberry flavors and aromas, complemented by baking and exotic spices wafting above the fruit. It is a rich, concentrated wine that also retains freshness and balance due to the high elevation of the vineyard.

Delicious now, it will also reward 10-12 years of cellaring. Enjoy with grilled salmon, mid-eastern accented dishes, and anything with small birds!
