Wines For Your Weekend Enjoyment: May Hits

Happy holiday weekend from Marcus and Andy,

There were so many hits in May that we added a lucky seventh wine to our usual 6-pack! We deeply appreciate your support and trust in our tastes and recommendations.

As always, we trust you have great wines lined up for the weekend and in case you need any inspiration or provisions for future weekends, here is a baker's half dozen standouts from the month. Cheers to you!

Patricia Green Cellars Volcanic Pinot noir 2016
$37.75 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($41.95 regular)
93 points Wine Spectator, Highly Recommended: "Precise and lively, with tension, offering layered and vibrant cherry, river stone and orange peel flavors that take on richness toward refined tannins." We love this juice!

Sheridan Vineyard Syrah 2015
$23.35 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($25.95 regular)
An absolute knockout. A mere five barrels, this "Baby Singularity" (from the Singularity block -- you know, the Singularity that sells for $100/bottle), this animal is the alpha-Syrah within its class -- totally dominant not because of force but simply because it is the best. Awesome density and texture, red, black, and blue fruits melting together, leaving behind a heavenly suggestion of mixed berry pie. Only 120 cases made so it will not last long!

Seekseekqua Hope Well Vineyard Pinot noir 2016
$24.25 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($26.95 regular)
A thrilling new discovery, and an example of what we do best: introduce outstanding new Northwest wines to the world. From Mimi Casteel's Hope Well Vineyard. You simply won't find a more thoughtfully, sustainably farmed vineyard in the country, which is one of the many reasons this Pinot is exceptional in both quality and value. A breath of fresh Pinot air. - Marcus

Walter Scott Freedom Hill Pinot noir 2016
$49.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($54.95 regular)
95 points PinotFile: "Brooding aromas of black raspberry, spice and compost. Very classy, with mid weight flavors of black cherry, black raspberry and intense spice. A subtle pine, forest and floral note plays alongside the core of delicious fruit. The texture is enticingly silken, and the tannins are unusually tame for this vineyard. Overall, a highly nuanced wine with impeccable balance and an intensely aromatic and spicy finish that captivates." The best Freedom Hill Pinot noir we've tasted, going back at least 17 vintages. Only a handful of cases remain!

Loop de Loop Four Winds Vineyard Pinot noir 2016
$22.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($24.95 regular)
A tiny production Pinot that you should snap up immediately. So fragrant and alive, it can only be Pinot noir in the way it moves, so effortless and elegant while conveying so much flavor. Very similar in character to a $60 Volnay I enjoyed earlier this week, this will be the first full case of Oregon Pinot noir I buy in 2018 for home drinking. It paired amazingly with chicken and porcini mushrooms. - Marcus

Sheridan Vineyard Mystique 2016

$23.35 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($25.95 regular)
A fantastic bottle of wine that completely outclasses its peers. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and for the first time, 25% Cabernet Franc to go with Merlot. Creamy, red and black fruits abound, diving deep along a velvety slide, all framed by a mouthwatering savory freshness and the perfect spice compliment that'll keep you reaching for another pour.

Beaux Freres Beaux Freres Vineyard Pinot noir 2016

$85.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($94.95 regular)
95 points Wine Spectator, Hot Wine: "Remarkably and seamlessly complex, with a polished and refined core wrapped in silky raspberry and blueberry flavors, accented by savory spice and orange zest hints. The long finish builds toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2025." The third straight 95 for Beaux Freres's flagship Pinot, emblematic of Oregon's string of fantastic vintages.

We're looking forward to helping you with an order. Have a great holiday weekend!

Marcus and Andy
