Wines For Your Weekend Enjoyment: January Hits

Happy weekend from Marcus and Andy,

We hope you had a fantastic January. Thanks to your support, 2018 started strongly!

As always, we trust you have great wines lined up for the weekend and in case you need any inspiration or provisions for future weekends, here are a half dozen standouts from the month. Cheers to you!

Elk Cove La Sirene Pinot noir 2015
$14.99 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($16.66 regular)
Amazing juice made by the winery who grew it -- that is literally unheard of in the world of $15 Willamette Valley Pinot, especially from a truly exceptional vintage like 2015 (our favorite since 2010) and even more so, from an Oregon winery who was making Pinot in the '70s. You'd think we'd be used to Elk Cove's head-scratchingly amazing value by now but actually, with each new release it becomes even harder to believe. Trust us: tasting is believing. - Marcus and Andy

Betz Cuvee Frangin 2014
$32.35 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($35.95 regular)
A red-carpet wine without the accompanying price-tag. This Cab blend demonstrates how truly exceptional Betz wines are. The result of unflinching standards and a desire to make their flagship wines even stronger, this wine is cut from the same cloth as Pere de Famille, etc. And you can taste and feel it. What impresses us most about Betz's 2014s is the finesse; they are the Roger Federer of Washington wineries, where artistry, precision and judicious use of power meld. - Marcus

Belle Pente Estate Reserve Pinot noir 2014
$49.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($54.95 regular)
95 points Vinous: "Powerful blue fruit liqueur, violet pastille, incense and smoky mineral aromas, along with hints of cola and exotic spices. Appealingly sweet and expansive on the palate, offering densely packed black raspberry, boysenberry, mocha and floral pastille flavors and a strong spicecake note. Supple, well-knit tannins give shape to the intensely fruit-driven finish, which lingers with outstanding persistence and building sweetness."

Corsini Barbera d'Alba 2015
$14.35 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($15.95 regular)
The best vintage of their Barbera I can recall, the 2015 hits all the notes: fresh, engaging aromas that whisk you right to the hills of Monforte, silky dark fruits, mouthwatering acidity that works with so many foods (from ravioli to pizza to brisket, we've had them all), and the kind of price that makes it an easy case-buy. - Marcus

Mark Ryan Dead Horse Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
$53.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($59.95 regular)
Dead Horse has always been a rockstar. The kind of wine you'd fight to pour the last glass of. It still is. The Mark Ryan wines have never been so polished while exhibiting the muscular, brash, let's-party nature of the winery. It grabs the microphone to say "hey, check me out" The black fruits are welcoming yet firmly stacked, with gobs of early enjoyable exuberance that conceal the foundation that'll reward an easy 8-10 years of aging. I'd grab a few and begin drinking them now with decanting and finish the last bottle in 10 years. - Marcus

Patricia Green Cellars Notorious Pinot noir 2015

$76.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($84.95 regular)
95 points Vinous: "Explosive aromas of raspberry preserves, Asian spices and incense acquire a suave floral note as the wine opens up. Fleshy and broad in the mouth but surprisingly lithe as well, offering palate-staining Chambord, boysenberry and spicecake flavors that are complemented by blood orange and candied rose flourishes. Finishes seamless, sweet and strikingly long, featuring an echo of sappy red fruit and supple tannins that add shape."

We're looking forward to helping you with an order. Have a great weekend!

Marcus and Andy
