Wines For Your Weekend Enjoyment: April Hits

Happy weekend from your favorite wine guys,

As always, we trust you have great wines lined up for the weekend and in case you need any inspiration or provisions for future weekends, we offer a lucky seven standouts from the last month. We deeply appreciate your support; cheers to you!

Patricia Green Cellars Reserve Pinot noir 2017
$22.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($24.95 regular)
93 points Wine Spectator Insider 4/3/19: "Expressive and polished, with unfolding layers of blueberry, raspberry, green tea and orange peel, taking on complexity toward well-manicured tannins." In short, this wine is a smoking deal that will stand up to many, many much higher priced bottlings.

Substance Klein Vineyard Bx Blend 2015
$67.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($74.95 regular)
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Deep purple-colored, with a thrilling bouquet of crème de cassis, toasted spice, graphite, and dried tobacco, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, building yet sweet tannins, flawless balance, and a finish that goes on for over a minute. This is a tour de force in Bordeaux blends from Washington State that I wish every reader could taste. It's already accessible, with a sexy, flamboyant personality, yet it's going to keep for two decades given its balance and purity." 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc, our thoughts are "this is crazy good -- there's no way any big red wine fan would not love it!"

Morgen Long Black Label Chardonnay 2017
$22.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($24.95 regular)
Seriously fantastic value in Willamete Valley and moreover, worldwide Chardonnay. Fresh bowlfuls of citrus, mango, lime leaf, a gorgeous, mouthwateringly saline finish. One quarter each Seven Springs, Durant, AlexEli and Yamhill Vineyards.

Beaux Freres The Beaux Freres Vineyard Pinot noir 2017
$85.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($94.95 regular)
95 points Wine Spectator Insider: "Combines structure with verve, offering richly expressive raspberry, violet and orange peel flavors that take on polish and complexity toward well buffed tannins." A gorgeous vintage of Beaux Freres Vineyard, with an amazing seamlessness -- it moves so effortlessly, like floating without gravity from one billowy Pinot cloud to another.

Purple Hands Lone Oak Ranch Pinot noir 2017
$26.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($29.95 regular)
93 points Wine Spectator Insider: "Well-built and lively, featuring cherry and blueberry flavors, laced with black tea and smoky spice notes that build tension toward refined tannins."

Ca del Baio Barbaresco Asili 2015
$37.75 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($41.95 regular)
Three Glasses (Tre Bicchieri) Gambero Rosso. The story of Ca del Baio began with Asili, is one of the most prestigious vineyards in Barbaresco. Their oldest vines produce an exceptional, elegant Barbaresco that's also one of the best global wine values I've found. Classically structured yet youthfully attractive, exuding beautiful cherry and berry, rose, mineral, and tobacco. I've tried the wine three times now and while I'm sure decanting will make it even better, it has been gorgeous right from the bottle. Andy and I crushed it with tagliata (flank steak grilled and sliced) over spring arugula.

Mark Ryan The Dissident 2016
$35.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($39.95 regular)
93 points Wine Spectator Insider: "Expressive and multilayered, with lively rose petal and black cherry aromas and sleekly complex flavors that take on richness toward polished tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot." Equal parts gutsy and polished -- vintage Mark Ryan -- The Dissident stands shoulder-to-shoulder with many wineries' flagship wines, for far fewer dollars. The 2016 is fantastic, with plush black fruits that cascade through the finish. While the name might suggest this wine is made from barrels that don't fit the reserve program, such is definitely not the case: Dissident is sourced from the same vineyards, aged in the same barrels, and given the same love that goes into the flagships Dead Horse and Long Haul. The difference is The Dissident is made to drink young (and it shows!) and the others are made for the cellar. 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot.

We're looking forward to helping you with an order. Have a great spring weekend!

Marcus and Andy
