Cameron Dundee Hills Pinot noir 2015

The stuff of legends

A blend from old and established vines from Abbey Ridge and Clos Electrique Vineyards, Cameron's two crown jewels, it shows complexities and subtleties that don't normally exist in sub-$25 Pinot. Fresh and vibrant black cherry, black raspberry, rose, lavender with beautiful lift and energy. It's equal parts friendly and geeky, you can drink it now or add a case to your collection and drink it over the next 6+ years. "The aromas of Meyer lemon, honey, pear, white peach and buttery brioche soar from the glass. Crisp and bright in the mouth, with effusive flavors of citrus, apple, apricot and spice with a flinty compliment. A stunning wine with inviting balance and a mouthwatering finish. Still enduring when tasted the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. I also tasted this wine at a restaurant in San Francisco with the same impression and found it to be a perfect food wine." 

Ayoub Estate Pinot noir 2015

Silk in a bottle

When you ask me to describe Ayoub's Estate Pinot in one word, it is an easy choice: silk. We were immediately struck by how open and aromatic the '15 is, giving instant pleasure with its beautiful perfume of crushed red berries, sweet orange, and rose. I return to the silk, which envelopes you in red-fruited wonder, with delicate accents of candied orange, dark cocoa, and baking spices. I finished the bottle 48 hours after opening and it was every bit as fresh, pure and silky, perhaps more so. It is incredibly rare to recommend equally that you open it now and that you age it for 10 years. The instant gratification factor of this wine is purely awesome -- amazingly it is rivaled by its age-worthiness. 

Betz Pere de Famille Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

In rarefied territory

There are a literal handful of Washington Cabernets that so perfectly handle the structure of Cab with such class. Opening with pure elegance, we were taken by the savory mouthwatering aromas combining black cherry, pebbles and hints of fresh ground coffee and then pow -- gorgeous and voluptuous, all the while maintaining a near-mythical freshness and perhaps the most refined tannins of any Washington Cab. The texture! Hailing largely from the 1973 plantings in Red Willow Vineyard, this is stunning wine that can be enjoyed in two years or in twenty. We highly recommend it and we're not alone: 95 points from Tanzer, 94-97 points from Wine Advocate.

Evesham Wood Eola-Amity Hill Pinot noir 2015

Case material 

A superb value in perfect Pinot. Generous and juicy black cherry delivered on a bed of silk, with a sprig of rosemary. Yeah! I wish I could reach through cyberspace and deliver a glass so you could experience the pure joy of this wine. Continually expanding on the upper and lower register, maintaining the energy and vibrancy we love in Evesham Pinots. It might seem bonkers to suggest that a wine of this price can age a decade but given my experience, it can and does. Kind of theoretical, since you'll crack your first bottle and want to drink the rest.
