Wines For Your Weekend Enjoyment

Happy Saturday from your friends at Avalon!

February has been an amazing month for new wine releases, with tons of inspiring wines for all tastes. We hope you have great wines lined up for the weekend and in case you need any inspiration or provisions for future weekends, here are a half dozen greatest hits from the month. Cheers to you, and thanks for your support!

Arterberry Maresh Dundee Hills Chardonnay 2015

$22.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($24.95 regular)

The first since 2011, and it rocks

80% Maresh, plus contributions from Weber and newcomer Dux Vineyards, it's everything we want and expect: expressive richness, well-defined freshness, depth of flavor and outright down-the-hatch goodness. We urge you to get some while you can. Only 100 cases made and we've already sold a very healthy percentage of them.

Patricia Green Cellars Estate Old Vine Pinot noir 2014

$26.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($29.95 regular)

92 points Vinous, regularly $40

From vines planted between 1984 and 1990, this equally rich and refined Pinot noir shows classic Ribbon Ridge qualities of dark berries mingling with savory and mineral notes. It is delicious today and even deliciouser (yep) after being open for a day. Even better? It is $10 cheaper than the 2013, making it a fantastic value in old vine, estate grown Willamette Valley Pinot.

Andrew Will Malbec 2014

$32.35 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($35.95 regular)

From 37 year-old vines in Champoux Vineyards

Of course this is fantastic -- we expect no less from Andrew Will, a winery at the top of their craft for years. Beautiful, beaming fruit of the purple, blue and black variety joins classic Champoux notes of sun-baked earth, adding a hint of turkish coffee. That alone would be sufficient to make it worthy of recommendation, but add the brightness and you find yourself coming back for more and has us saying, you want this juice. Only 117 cases made.

Lingua Franca Pinot noir Willamette Valley Ryan's Plow 2015

$58.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($64.95 regular)

94 points Wine Spectator, highly recommended by us

A must-have example of Oregon Pinot noir. The bar for 2015 has been set high -- this wine will be a benchmark by which we judge other releases. Positively gorgeous and engaging in every way, complex as it is effortlessly enjoyable, this cascades with black cherry and black raspberry on a silky frame. Superb length and unending Pinot noir sweetness. A blend of Seven Springs and Black Walnut Vineyards.

Beaux Freres Upper Terrace Pinot noir 2014

$22.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($99.99 regular)

95 points Vinous, back for a limited time: "Explosive, mineral-accented aromas of red berry liqueur, cherry cola, vanilla and potpourri, accompanied by a sexy floral overtone that gains strength as the wine opens up. Juicy, concentrated and expansive on the palate, offering intense black raspberry, cherry compote and floral pastille flavors and a touch of cola. Displays an extremely impressive interplay of power and finesse, showing a seamless texture and a firm mineral spine. A strikingly long, sappy finish features smooth, sneaky tannins, resonating florality and a lingering suggestion of five-spice powder." - Josh Raynolds

Ovum Love Me or Leave Me Gewurztraminer 2015

$22.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($24.95 regular)

A stunning white wine

Ovum is one of the brightest rising stars in American winemaking -- whether or not you're a fan of Gewurztraminer, Love Me or Leave Me is simply stunning. The best domestic Gewurztraminer we've tasted, this stunning wine transcends the confines of the grape. Here, the typical spice, rosewater and lychee notes of Gewurztraminer act as accents to the rich texture and beautiful acidity that drive the wine. From vines plated in 1976 in the Rogue Valley's Gerber Vineyard.
