Hundred Suns epitomizes the Willamette Valley micro-winery, a family project where everything is done by hand with the utmost integrity. The four hands involved are those of Grant Coulter and Renee Saint-Amour, a pair who represent the most genuine, warm-fuzzy feelings of the Willamette Valley and who make truly outstanding Pinot noirs, easily among the most thrilling Pinots in Oregon.
After nine excellent years at Beaux Freres, where among other achievements Grant made the #3 wine in Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2016, he left to pursue new opportunities and to launch Hundred Suns.
The conundrum we've had with Grant and Renee's wines is that we (almost) have to temper our enthusiasm for them because they make such tiny amounts. To hell with it, we say -- let our wild-eyed enthusiasm be known: these wines are incredible! We have, as recently as Friday's Cameron offer, advised you to act quickly in grabbing certain wines (Cameron WVPN sold out in 60 seconds). While these may last a little longer, we expect them to sell out within 48 hours and we do not exaggerate. Hundred Suns Old Eight Cut Pinot noir 2017

I'm a notorious self-editor, so I'm going to give you the direct transcribing of my handwritten notes: "Oooooh yeah! Cool aromatics and cool everything! Gobs of berries and savory yum yums -- super silky & round w/juiciness & delicacy -- pound-able!"
A seriously impressive trio of vineyards -- Sequitur, Shea and Bednarik -- forms this tremendous value. We're gaga for the 2017 edition of Old Eight Cut, the strongest showing yet for this blend. You will not find a better $30 Pinot from our fair state. - Marcus
A masterpiece of elegance and refinement, with depth and layers to the aromas and flavors. A symphonic spectrum of floral accents, beautiful mixed cherries, and overall bright tones kept us enthralled through the sweetly-fruited yet wonderfully cool finish. Speaking of cool, Bednarik is a small, 6-acre vineyard in the Coast Range with old vines, planted in 1988 to Pommard and Wadenswil clones. - Marcus
From Beaux Freres' co-founder Mike Etzel's magically-farmed Sequitur Vineyard, this exquisite wine features ultra-silky crushed berries with a dollop of cream, a very pretty sandalwood top note, a comforting sweet spice and a finish of warm plums with a pinch of orange zest. It's a rich and complex dynamo or as Andy hand-wrote, "a joyous wine experience!" Amen to that. - Marcus
A fascinating Shea Vineyard Pinot noir that tames some of Shea's power while maintaining its intensity. Sound intriguing? It sure is. Shea, one of Oregon's best known and even iconic vineyards, weaves three small and distinct fermentation lots together, each one bringing its attractive share: fragrant spicy liveliness, crushed red fruits, savory depth. - Marcus
