Two Outstanding Cab Blends

It's straight to the point today: two outstanding Washington Cabernet-based blends. First up, Pursued by Bear's 2018 Bear Cub is an early entry for Washington value of the year—it's absolutely packed with deliciousness and intrigue, all for under $30. Next, the chorus that sings of Avennia being one of Washington's top wineries just keeps getting louder with each vintage; their fantastic new Gravura 2019 show you why. Both are highly recommended by us!

93 points, Editors' Choice Wine Enthusiast: "A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 1% Syrah, this is a side project for actor Kyle MacLachlan, and it's a show stealer. Aromas of dark roasted coffee bean, vanilla, black cherry, cedar and spice lead to sumptuous, textured, layered dark fruit and spice flavors. It's flat-out delicious, putting a premium on hedonism. It roars out of the gates but will only get better with some time in the cellar. What a value."

Us: Bear Cub is a fantastic Cab-based blend, considered a “playful sibling” of Pursued by Bear’s flagship Cabernet. We concur–it is playfully fun to open and drink now but much like a bear cub, there’s a lot of strength right under the surface. Loads of bright dark berries and plums, a pinch of cocoa, a comforting warm vanilla note. It’s outstanding!

93 points Wine Spectator Insider: "Sleek and multilayered, with expressive black cherry, bitter chocolate and dusky spice flavors that build toward refined tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030."

Us: A delicious combination of blue fruit and black cherry meets graphite and violets, with espresso notes woven throughout. We love the balance of Avennia's wines and in the '19 Gravura, it sails far and wide. You will love it when you try one now and you'll be glad you bought more when you enjoy bottles over the course of a decade. 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot from excellent vineyards: Dionysus, Bacchus, Red Willow, Weinbau, Boushey.
