The Corliss Big Boys

Every year we’ve offered them, our Corliss Cabernet and Red Wine stash has sold out in minutes. Lit-er-al-ly. Typically, the Syrah is so limited we can't even include it in an email offer. Sure, the reviews are always stellar but it's more the track record of excellence these big boys enjoy and even more so, the fact that they're customer favorites. We have requests for them months before release.

In our opinion (which is mirrored by some of the world's leading wine critics, including the highly respected and very conservative scorer, Steve Tanzer) these are among the handful of Washington's best red wines. We love the '14s and encourage you to stake your claim quickly.

95+ points Vinous, Steve Tanzer: "Deep, lively aromas of black raspberry, pungent spices, coffee, mint and picholine olive, plus a complicating hint of herbaceousness. Wonderfully concentrated, fine-grained and light on its feet, conveying terrific intensity and inner-mouth energy to its slightly inky black fruit and mint flavors. Finishes very spicy and long, with tannins saturating the entire palate but not showing any dryness. An outstanding young Washington Cabernet for the cellar. I am actually a bit ahead of myself on the Corliss wines, as these 2014s will not be released until 2019.”

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 28 months in French oak, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley is slightly more expensive than the Red Wine blend but certainly delivers. It too is saturated purple in color and offers awesome notes of crème de cassis, graphite, wet stone, and chocolate. With perfectly integrated oak, a rich, full-bodied mouthfeel, and high yet ripe, tannin, it's a blockbuster Cabernet Sauvignon that's going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades."

$69.25 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($76.95 regular)

94 points Vinous, Steve Tanzer: "Aromas of currant, spices, herbs, licorice and scorched earth are lifted by hints of violet and rose petal that may be from the Cabernet Franc. Very concentrated, tactile wine with a pleasing balance of fruit sweetness and tannins. A dominant redcurrant flavor is complicated by a meaty nuance and a suggestion of brown sugar, with energizing Cabernet-typical herb and licorice notes emerging as the wine opens in the glass. Very suave, broad, big wine with a serious tannic spine to support extended aging."

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Red Wine checks in as a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot that spent 28 months in new and used French oak. Sporting the normal inky color (these Corliss releases are always inky colored) and classic notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, mulled spices, and espresso, it hits the palate with a full-bodied, elegant, beautifully balanced style. Layered, pure, with nicely integrated acidity and ripe yet present tannin, it's very much in the style of this estate and will keep for 15+ years."

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Deep, inky-colored with a huge nose of blackcurrants, charcoal, chocolate, and graphite, this puppy hits the palate with a full-bodied, unctuous, powerful style that stays nicely balanced and pure. It's a big, rich, modern styled effort that has tons to love. Drink it anytime over the coming decade."

Us: The unsung hero of the line-up, this is a beautiful Syrah that's raring to go. Bold and concentrated but also suave and surprisingly balanced.
