The Best Chardonnay Line-Up in the New World

We've beat around the bush a little with the last couple vintages of Morgen Long Chardonnay. To be fair, we did say his line-up was the most dynamic and delicious range of Willamette Valley Chard available. Yet still, with the tasting of his 2019s we find ourselves sharpening the pencil and putting a finer point on it.

Seth Morgen Long delivers what we believe is the best line-up of Chardonnay from the New World. His wines crush much of what's available from any Chardonnay producing region at similar prices and higher.

A critical piece of info for the offer: the rest of the Chard-loving world has majorly caught on to the Morgen Long wines. Majorly. We've gotten calls and requests for months. This is likely your first and final notification for these incredible wineswe won't have the luxury of waiting for reviews given the tiny production and intense demand.

Seth's singular path of Willamette Valley Chardonnay has fully come to fruition in 2019; he's managed to flex his winemaking and international Chardonnay wisdom at precisely the right moment. We cannot express how highly we recommend the entire line-up, from the category-redefining values Willamette Valley and Marine to the earth-shattering single vineyards, and everywhere in between. Grab one of the 6-pack samplers and load up on your favorites. Just do it quickly because the world is after these wines.

$31.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($34.95 regular)

Us: The ambassador of the vintage. The molten-gold feel of the 2019s really sets anchor here, as does the volume and richness matched by the balancing freshness. We adore the way this smells, moves, stretches, exemplifies what we prize in Willamette Chard.

Seth: Elegantly flinty, lemon curd, lime oil, almond paste, graham, ginger, crushed rocks and faint wood spice. Lively acidity and buoyant flavors are smoothed by silken texture and ample density, stretching out long on the finish. Vineyards: 40% Seven Springs, 25% X Omni, 19% Durant, 8% Loubejac, 7%Yamhill, 1% The Eyrie.

$22.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($24.95 regular)

Us: This is an underpriced winean ideal restaurant glass pour which we're extremely fortunate to have in the line-up. Mouthwatering citrus, fresh sea air, exceptional weight and length for the price. Case-worthy!

Seth: Aromas of lime curd, Asian pear, chalk, beeswax, jasmine, green tea and graham. Ripe flavors and good weight is subtly moored below a shimmering minerality of bright acids and chalky texture.
Vineyards: 60% Yamhill 40% Loubejac.

$44.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($49.95 regular)

Us: The wine which replaces last year's smash-hit Durant Vineyard (and is 90% Durant) is a textural thrill-ride. My handwritten notes include some swears because when I run out adjectives, nothing else will do!

Seth: Aromas of wet rocks, orange oil, yellow pear, salted pineapple, white flowers and ginger crème. Willowy flavors of warm lemon ginger spice and the smooth texture is stretched out with bright acidity which drives into a long finish. Vineyards: 90% Durant, 10% The Eyrie.

$44.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($49.95 regular)

Us: Like the Dundee Hills, a new wine in 2019 that shows another sphere and dimension, marrying the gorgeous core of X Omni fruit with the ethereal, sun-shining-through-rain-clouds effect of Seven Springs.

Seth: Aromas of crushed rocks, ginger candy, lemon curd, lime oil, mint, graham and faint wood spice. Vibrating with acidity, bright flavors broaden and expand as a textured, subtle richness delicately fades in a lacy finish.
Vineyards: 50% Seven Springs Vineyard, 50% X Omni.

$75.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($84.95 regular)

Us: A stunner of a new single vineyard, it is the most explosively aromatic of Seth's '19s and also features the most generous cascade of fruit, which melts across your palate thanks to the vibrant acidity.

Seth: Aromas of creamy orange, key lime curd, salted grapefruit and pineapple, with lemongrass, almond meal, graham, and wood spice. Firm acidity, vivid flavors, and chalky texture smooths together. X Omni is powerful but sleek with delicate reduction.

$67.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($74.95 regular)

Us: There's no other Chardonnay, or wine for that matter, like Memorie in the entire Willamette Valley...and likely well beyond. It shows both the maturity, richness, and breadth of its past-vintage layers and the buoyant freshness of its newest addition. Absolutely spectacular and unique, only 25 cases bottled.

Seth: Aromas of chalk, oyster shells, lemongrass, saffron, lemongrass and white grapefruit. Polished minerals and preserved white citrus flavors shimmer with energy above six vintages of depth, seamlessly woven together, smooth, sleek and dense.

Thirty-four lots of wines blended from seven vineyards over six successive vintages:
21% – 2019
22% – 2018
23% – 2017
10% – 2016
23% – 2015
~1% –2014

Memorie is the gradual process of fractional blending of every single lot of Chardonnay I produce into one wine, exploring an interplay of fresh blasts of youthful vinous energy into a dense, grand and savory complexity that comes from multiple vintages aging slowly into one another on lees for years. The base of the solera has been in steel on lees for 12-60 months and is refreshed each year by a small portion of every lot of the next vintage to be bottled. A portion of the refreshed base is then blended with a portion of the better barrels of new oak and was bottled March 2021 without filtration.

$109.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($119.95 regular)

Us: A profound wine, chiseled from a legendary block of Chardonnay gold, the density, weight, and stature this exudes is worthy of a museum. Extremely limited, only 25 cases bottled.

Seth: Aromas of musky fall orchard air, chalky minerals, nectarine oil, lemon curd, chamomile, saffron crème, cereal dust and ginger. Firm, silky texture and smooth acidity and golden flavors which are soft, lush, rich and dense and stretch out long.

Vineyard: The Eyrie Vineyard, organically farmed, non-irrigated 1968-planted Draper selection, hailing from European plant material brought to Draper Ranch, Napa Valley in the 1930s.

$24.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($27.95 regular)

Us: Like the Memorie, a Willamette Valley original. 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot noir and Gamay lees creates...well you just have to taste it! The elements we love in Chard plus a delicious wild berry note. YUM.

Seth: Pale pink, aromas of blood orange, tangerine, pear, raspberry and green tea, with bready, savory, musky flourishes. Flavors of white cranberry, salted grapefruit, saffron and sour patch kids stretch out into delicate chalky structure with juicy acidity.

Vineyards: 50% X Omni, 35% Durant, 10% Loubejac and

5% Seven Springs Pinot noir and Gamay lees.
Two barrels of X Omni, one barrel each of Durant and Loubejac diverged from the rest of their lots after ambient yeasts cruised through primary fermentation. Ambient malolactic moved slowly for six months, and even after I introduced malolactic bacteria. After twelve months aging on lees in once filled and neutral 228L French oak barrels, the wines were blended in stainless steel for a second winter on lees without sulfur. In the last week of 2020, I racked the wines off of Chardonnay lees and blended in Pinot noir and Gamay lees from Seven Springs.

$67.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($74.95 regular)

Us: A different animal in that it is currently driven by its flinty reduction, it is no less compelling as it stretches out, opens up and grows into the wonderful pillowy airiness that has come to distinguish Seth's Seven Springs Chard.

Seth: Powerful aromas of flint and struck match fuse with lime oil, lemon curd, white peach, ginger, pistachio crème, waffle and woodspice. Crystalline flavors, vibrant acidity, layered with dense, fine textures, all weightless and lingering.
