The Awesome Wines of Isole e Olena

I'm still processing my mind-blowing Italy trip, reviewing pictures, transcribing notes, reliving moments and tastes I'll always remember. Within an epic trip, an especially awesome visit was to Isole e Olena, one of my favorite producers not only in Italy, but worldwide.
Leaving Barolo-land early Wednesday morning, we drove a steady five hours to roll into the forested hills south of Firenze, the excitement of my first-ever visit to Isole taking the place of the usual roadside espresso go-juice. A jaw-dropping scene unfolded as we navigated the Tuscan cypress-lined driveway.
The kinds of wine that make you feel alive, Isole e Olena's flagship Sangiovese, Cepparello, stupefyingly great Cabernet, and excellent value Chianti Classico belong in your collection.

Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT 2015
$67.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($74.95 regular)
If you love Sangiovese, and for that matter any world class red wine, you owe it to yourself to try Cepparello. It's one of Italy's best wines and honestly, I prefer it to many Brunello. I had the opportunity taste two different bottles, one of which had been open a day, and I loved both. Day 1: amazing and alluring, showing a surprising youthful lushness to the layered red fruits, adding savory Tuscan herbs that linger on the supple, super long and bright finish. Day 2: the classic Cepparello structure shows itself, with ultra-fine tannin emerging, foreshadowing a long cellar life ahead. In short, feel free to enjoy a bottle now, especially with dinner, and don't think twice about aging bottles for up to a decade or longer. 96 points James Suckling, 93 points Wine Spectator, 2 eyebrows raised from me! - Marcus

Stunning. Impeccably classy, proudly displaying its pure Cabernet heart in a stately fashion. I love it because it tastes exactly like Cab and it tastes exactly like Tuscany -- I can have both worlds. Gorgeous fruit purity, texture, and freshness allow it to be enjoyed at this early stage (enjoyed is an understatement). By far one of my favorite Cabernets we sell and for that matter, that I've ever tasted, Isole's Cab has also become a favorite of our discerning Cabernet-loving customers. World class. - Marcus

The brilliant cherry essence of Sangiovese with supreme, silky refinement. Fresh and lively, ready for the dinner table, this will shine particularly well with any dish that accented by rosemary. - Marcus
92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Chianti Classico is a bright and convincing wine from Barberino Val d'Elsa, one of the main comuni in the greater Chianti Classico appellation. This is a smooth and silky Sangiovese that glides clean over the palate with strength and intensity. Bright cherry, blueberry and herbal accents with wild sage and rosemary characterize the finish. Like many other wines from the 2015 vintage, there is an evident touch of cherry sweetness on the close."
We spent a good deal of time discussing the human impact within wine, contrary to the oft-repeated mantra, "the wine makes itself." The above is a summation of Isole e Olena's propietors' views.
We look forward to helping you with an order. Thanks for your reading and have a great weekend!
