While aMaurice's Artist Series are named for the artists who grace the front labels, an equal degree of art is in the bottle. Winemaker Anna Schafer creates some of our favorite Washington red blends, works of art in their own right that we highly, highly recommend. The '14 Mason is rich and ready, the '15 Morris is built for greatness. Grab some of each along with the last of aMaurice's 2014 Reserve Cab and the first of the new release of the rollicking Tuesday-night blend, Pour Me. Cheers to you and your weekend!
Gorgeous Washington red wine. What we particularly love about the Artist Series blends, and the Morris especially, is their purity of fruit and essence of balance, not covered up by excessive oak or tannin, or anything. Reminiscent of the Andrew Will style, we can think of no higher compliment. Morris is packed and dense, showing midnight-dark fruits buoyed by a lovely freshness. Velvety-rich already with a touch of youthful grip, a quick decant will give you art in a glass. - Marcus and Andy
93+ points Wine Advocate:"A blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Artist Series Morris Blend reproduces on its label an oil painting by the American Abstract Impressionist painter Carl Morris. The wine offers up attractive aromas of crushed cassis, pencil shavings and toasted gingerbread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate with a deep core of savory fruit and youthfully chewy structuring tannins. The finish is long and nicely delineated. This was my favorite of these offerings from àMaurice Cellars, and I'd expect it to reach its peak in the next decade."
A darker, plumper version of the Artist Series blend, owing to its backbone of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, Mason fills the glass first with its floral-accented dark fruits and espresso bean aromas before its mouth-filling yumminess takes hold. Black berry and black currant shine alongside subtle licorice spice. Rounded out with 27% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot, this is ready to gush. - Marcus

96 points Wine Advocate:"96 points Wine Advocate: "Possessing incredible elegance and purity, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Owl and Crown (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) gives up classic notes of blackcurrants, cassis, lead pencil shavings and leafy herbs. Medium to full-bodied, utterly seamless and gorgeously polished on the palate."
The aromas are immediately lovable, showing pure Cab black fruits and graphite. Silky and voluptuous and wonderfully classy, this is another smashing success from aMaurice. Highly recommended! 100% Cab, estate grown, only 245 cases produced. - Marcus
