Big news reviews just in from Wine Spectator Insider this morning: Spectator's highest rated Washington red wine for the entire 2017 vintage! The winery is a household name: K Vintners. The wine is one of their less known Cab/Syrah blends, Roma, at 95 points and the coveted "Hot Wine" designation, which we'll bet sets Roma up for a high placement in this year's Top 100.
Wine Spectator has been notably quiet on Washington the last couple years (since they changed critics for Washington) and has generally taken to more conservative scoring, which makes this 95 a big deal on its own. But that it's their highest rated Washington wine of the vintage? Yee-hah!

95 points Wine Spectator, "Hot Wine" 5.12.21: Impressive for its structure and polish, a wine that seamlessly marries Cabernet and Syrah while retaining the best of both, with blackberry, black olive, smoky cured meat and lots of cracked pepper flavors. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through 2030.
Us: Roma 2017 embodies what has made K's recent vintages so appealing: part muscle car, part Lexus, the best qualities of each. At 80%, Cabernet drives this jet-black beauty with Syrah adding flourishes. Supple and velvety, this smooth operator knows how to accelerate.
