Cavallotto Barolo Vignolo Riserva 2010
$116.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($129.95 regular)
No trip to Barolo is complete without a visit to Cavallotto, and no Barolo collection is complete without Cavallotto Riservas! The largest bottle I could find...alas, I could not fit in my suitcase. While this has 1-2 decades of cellarability ahead of it, it was nonetheless amazing with the proper cuisine.
97 points Wine Enthusiast: "After a few minutes in the glass, this stunning wine opens up to reveal classic Nebbiolo aromas of leather, tilled soil, underbrush, fragrant blue flower and ripe berry. The juicy concentrated palate dishes out layers of succulent black cherry, crushed raspberry, anise and pipe tobacco framed in firm, velvety tannins. Drink 2022-2035."
95 points Wine Spectator: "Sweet cherry and currant fruit combines with eucalyptus, tobacco, leather and tar flavors in this firm, sinewy red. In the traditional style, with plenty of underbrush, saline and tannic components, finishing long and savory. Best from 2019 through 2035. 510 cases made.

Ca del Baio Barbaresco Asili Riserva 2011

($109.95 regular)
The note below was written right when this was bottled -- imagine the review if he tried it today? I did, and you know I don't assign scores to wines I taste but boy am I tempted. Consider this great wine made; it's even more seamless and beautiful now. at right, the 2016 Asili Riserva fermenting away
95+ points Vinous, Antonio Galloni: "An absolute stunner, the 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Asili, emerges from the glass with a mélange of exotic, beguiling aromatics. Lavender, pine, rose petal, savory herbs and melted road tar form a fabric of nearly indescribable beauty. Proprietor Giulio Grasso elected to leave the wine on its skins until the end of November. Power and finesse have never been so seamless here. Although just bottled, the 2011 Asili Riserva is a great wine in the making."

Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Perno Vigna Santo Stefano 2013
$98.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($109.95 regular)
One of the wines of the trip from the meal of the trip (at Repubblica di Perno, overlooking the vineyard), this was sheer awesomeness in a glass. Sexy, supple, gorgeously aromatic and textured, I could have sat and savored this for days.
94 points Wine Spectator: "There's a lot going on in this red, from the floral, licorice, cherry and earth aromas and flavors to the lightly chewy texture and long, mineral-tinged aftertaste. Balanced and elegant, coming together beautifully with time. Best from 2021 through 2035. 166 cases made."
I'm looking forward to helping you with an order. Thanks for reading and for your support!
