Save 30% on a Standout 2016 Pinot: Nicolas-Jay Love
We've told you how much we love Nicolas-Jay Willamette Valley Pinot noir 2016; that was at its original price. The winery is moving their Willamette Valley Pinot to a new (lower!) price from here on and we're so excited to re-launch one of our standouts from the entire 2016 vintage, today at 30% off!It is a particularly strong value when compared to Jean-Nicolas Meo's "other" Pinot noirs (from Burgundy, like the 2017 Richebourg for nearly $2000).
Our Nicolas-Jay love doesn't begin and end with their Willamette Valley Pinot–they've just released two brilliant new wines: Own-Rooted Pinot noir 2017 and Affinités Chardonnay 2018. Own-Rooted is so limited we shouldn't gush too much but...we can't help it. Only 2 cases available so act quickly. Thankfully there's a little more Chardonnay available because it's superb. Cheers!

Vivid and and wonderfully aromatic, we could have a glass sitting on our desks for hours just to keep sniffing its sublime perfume. It is subtly, elegantly powerful and persistent. The black cherry is unstoppable. While labeled a "mere" Willamette Valley," this is 100% a "reserve" wine in its flavor, structure, and movement. We love it.
We think Wine Spectator (mostly) nailed the tasting note. While after all this time we still don't know exactly what "precise" is, there's precision to the Nicolas-Jay '16, plus depth and grace to spare. We find it utterly engaging today and as for aging–Wine Spectator, we're looking at you–this has way more than enough goods to age well past 2024, should that be your M.O.
94 points Wine Spectator: "Precise, deeply structured yet graceful, with expressive black cherry, river stone and black tea accents that build richness toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2024."

Okay...here's one of those Pinots where we can't gush too much because the supply simply doesn't allow it. But...this is impeccable Pinot noir, beguilingly complex and elegant with a perfect, perfect satiny texture. The longer it's open the further its wings stretch. Only two cases available to the lucky, and speedy few. - Marcus
Our “Own-Rooted” Pinot Noir showcases several old-vine sites in the Willamette Valley, each at least 30 years old, and planted at a time when rootstock was relatively rare in Oregon viticulture. Our own Bishop Creek Vineyard supplies a portion of the blend, showing off its characteristic black fruit. Hyland Vineyard, the oldest in the McMinnville AVA, sits atop a hillside looking over the Van Duzer Corridor, and its 45 year old vines supply tension in this wine. 1990-planted Pommard from Nysa Vineyard completes this wine, supplying elegant red fruit and spice. - the winery

Superb, especially when paired with pistachio crusted halibut and braised garden greens. I had it over the course of two days; at first, it was surprisingly rich, still with great acid, and once it had been open a while it tightened up/shed its fat and became more citrusy and taut. Excellent Chard! - Marcus
The 2018 Affinités Chardonnnay is a new member of the Nicolas-Jay family, and represents Jean-Nicolas' interest in Willamette Valley Chardonnay. This Willamette Valley cuvee showcases complimentary sites, blended with our own estate vineyard Bishop Creek. The result of these deep connections is a wine that is complex yet balanced and embodies the singularity of Willamette Valley Chardonnay. Aged entirely in neutral oak, 120 cases made.- the winery
