Rarities from 2010: It Was a Very Good Year

2010...It Was a Very Good Year.

The relationships we've built over our 32 years in business gives us access to rarities, like these two from one of our favorite Pacific Northwest vintages of all time! A cooler vintage, especially by today's standards, 2010 saw later harvests in both Oregon and Washington. And when we say "late," winemakers were picking grapes on Halloween under cool, sunny skies. Late ripening under the right conditions allowed for optimal flavor development; think of the complexity gained by cooking something lowly and slowly; 2010 was our "low and slow" vintage. We couldn't get enough of the '10s when they were released and we've loved revisiting the best of the 2010s from our cellars.

It's one thing to be able to revisit a bottle here and there, another to be fortunate enough to offer two of our favorite 2010s from two of our most beloved wineries: Owen Roe and Dusky Goose. Aged to perfection, from the wineries' cellars to yours, these two are in the ideal drinking zone!

Owen Roe Red Willow Vineyard 1973 Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
$62.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($69.95 regular)
Tasting note from 2019: Velvety smooth, decidedly red-fruited with delicious black fruit undertones, a subtle caramel ribbon that emerges with age from Owen Roe's best wines, this is spreading its wings and soaring. A regal,  stately Cabernet, it is commanding enough to be served on its own and versatile enough to be paired with...damn near everything. - Marcus

Our original note upon release: Sumptuous and silky textured, layers of blackberry and cassis explode in the mouth. Licorice, bittersweet cocoa, dried flowers, and a hint of eucalyptus add depth. A 30+ second finish of red plum and cherry, blackberry jam, and smoke add to its power and breadth. A gorgeous wine, though a bit tightly wound, decant if you plan to drink now. We suggest cellaring for 2-3 years before drinking, and holding for up to 15.

Dusky Goose Dundee Hills Pinot noir 2010
$62.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($69.95 regular)
After a spectacular recent tasting at Dusky Goose, which began with 2010 and ended with 2016, we were drooling over the opportunity to offer some of their library vintages, especially the 2010. To catch this rare Pinot in such a perfect drinking zone was a thing of beauty; to be able to share the experience with you is absolutely sublime!

This was my favorite wine of the visit and over the course of the next two days before I couldn't take it anymore and had to finish the bottle! So smooth and silky that I want to make it into a sweater that I can wear every day. Perfection in aged Pinot. - Marcus

Our original notes upon release: The aromas sold us immediately: raspberry, plum, rose, a hint of truffle and oak-spice. Mouthwatering. Elegant and silky bodied, it dishes fresh and dried cherries with a spoonful of cream finishing gorgeous and long. It's all about balance; we expect this to age beautifully and drink well for the better part of two decades. One of the final releases from the 2010 vintage and one of the finest. 70% Rambouillet, 15% Ana and 15% Thistle Vineyards.
Thanks so much for reading and for your enthusiastic support and go Team USA!!
