Oregon's Hottest Winery: Walter Scott 2014s

Fans of Oregon Pinot, do not miss these wines.

In our expert opinion, Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon's Walter Scott Wines is the hottest Oregon winery right now. Everyone's talking about them and for very good reasons.

Today's offering is several months in the making. We've tasted them in barrel a half-dozen times since harvest 2014. They were already smoking. Congrats to Ken and Erica on an epic vintage!

Our unanimous favorite of the line-up. This wine is gorgeous. Equal parts supple, concentrated, balanced, it's damn near perfect Pinot noir. Attractive fruit, complementary sweet, savory and spicy elements. Production of Temperance doubled in 2014; still there were only 150 cases made. Buy it. A Reserve Pinot Noir Club selection.

A fantastic small vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills, Sojo displays an exuberant Oregon wild berry basket complemented by subtle spice and mineral accents.

A more powerful Walter Scott wine, heaping generous black fruits, baking spices and a hint of violets. Ken's familiarity with the vineyard dates back nearly two decades to his time at St. Innocent.

The most forward of the new Walter Scott Pinots offers lush strawberry and sweet raspberry fruit accented by Asian spices. Clos des Oiseaux (pronounced wah-ZOH) is farmed by Ken and Erica.

What we love in Oregon Chardonnay. Bursting with citrus and the tastiest qualities of a Panang curry (lemongrass, ginger, kaffir lime), this picks up minerality, richness, and weight through the finish. The fascinating X Novo Vineyard is planted to 11 clones of Chardonnay.

A blend of Ken and Erica's best Chardonnay sites including Freedom Hill, X Novo, Vojtilla, and Bieze, this reserve blend represents their vision of Oregon Chardonnay. We love their vision. Tangerine, peach, flint, hazelnut - still evolving and will continue to develop for many years.
