New Scores from Barolo: Thrilling 2013s

2013 is a thrilling vintage for Barolo, which is causing wines to sell out at a dizzying rate. Today's Wine Spectator Insider will surely accelerate things. A couple long-time favorite Barolos -- from Cavallotto and Giuseppe Mascarello -- are our picks from the new reviews. These are some of the world's best wines from two of the world's best producers.

Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis 2013
$65.65 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($72.95 regular)
94 points Wine Spectator: "This is packed with sweet cherry, currant, floral and spice flavors. The vivid acidity drives the intensity, while dense tannins lend support. This will take some time to harmonize, but should be well worth the wait. Best from 2022 through 2040."
Dollar for dollar, my favorite Barolo producer. While I lament prices that creep steadily up with each vintage, I still find value in the exceptional Cavallotto wines. - Marcus

Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 2013
$148.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($164.95 regular)
96 points Wine Spectator: "A perfumed style, boasting floral, cherry, kirsch and licorice flavors. Slightly chewy, yet elegant overall, with fine balance and a lingering finish of macerated cherry, earth and tobacco notes. Shows fine length and intensity, leaving an essence of mineral. Best from 2021 through 2043."
One of my first "ah hah!" moments in Barolo (2000) and a bottle that helped me celebrate a milestone birthday (2004), Mascarello's Monprivato is a truly collectible -- and extraordinary -- wine. - Marcus

We're looking forward to helping you with an order. Thanks for reading and for your support!
