New Owen Roe Old-Vine Blockbusters

As we prepare for another Oregon snowstorm (1-3 inches!) we celebrate the arrival of our two favorite Owen Roe wines, both from the iconic Red Willow Vineyard. The Chapel Block Syrah hails from the original plantings of Syrah in Washington State, celebrating it's 30th birthday this year; the Red Willow Cab comes from some of the earliest plantings of Cab, in 1973. Both wines are fantastic and entirely deserving of space in your cellar. They're awfully tasty already and will make excellent accompaniments to your holiday roast.

Owen Roe Red Willow Vineyard Chapel Block Syrah 2014

$49.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($54.95 regular)

Our view of Owen Roe's Chapel Block Syrah has remained consistent: it is one of the finest Washington Syrahs each vintage. While so much hype and resulting attention is paid to vineyards east of Red Willow (specifically those in Walla Walla's Rocks region), we often prefer the purity and power of Chapel Block. The 2014 is classic Syrah: violets, crushed rock, peppercorns, tobacco, and black fruits greet your olfactory senses before an engaging, lively burst of blueberry and cocoa show up on the concentrated yet supple palate. This blockbuster wine can be opened now and given some breathing room; it will age for well past a decade. Only 200 cases made.

Owen Roe Red Willow Vineyard 1973 Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$62.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($69.95 regular)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Firm in texture, this is generous with its dark berry, black cherry, dried orange peel and tea flavors, coming together gracefully as the finish narrows in focus and lingers. Best from 2018 through 2024. 228 cases made.

We've loved this Cab since its inaugural vintage -- the '13 follows the lineage of gorgeous, powerful, yet regal and elegantly-styled Cab from these wonderful old vines.
