New Italian Picks: From Barolo to Vermentino

Happy Presidents' Day, Italian wine fans,

Several new Italian wines arrived last week, including a hotly anticipated 2013 Barolo and the last of the 97-point Cantina del Pino Ovello Barbaresco. Plus, my new go-to white wine and one of the prettiest Barberas I've tasted. All are highly recommended. Cheers!

Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo Monfalletto 2013
$43.15 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($47.95 regular)
This is fantastic Barolo. Deeply aromatic -- one sniff and you'll be thirsty. Brown spices and savory umami elements combine with a beautiful finesse and fullness, delivering Morello cherry and blood orange. Seamless and surprisingly elegant in tannin but with superb flavor cling, you will thoroughly enjoy this today if, like me, you can't resist young Barolo. Drink now through 2026. - Marcus

Terre Bianche Vermentino Riviera Ligure di Ponente 2016
$22.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($24.95 regular)
My new go-to white wine, this offers a lovely perfume of sea breeze, white flowers, aromatic herbs, and soft fruit. Mouthwatering citrus combines with a saline minerality that works so perfectly with food: fantastic with fish and seafood, great with salads, and it even held its own with my version of a quick cassoulet last night. When you can't be in the Cinque Terre, you can whisk yourself there with a glass of this! - Marcus

Cordero di Montezemolo Barbera d'Alba 2016
$21.55 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($23.95 regular)
A regal and pretty Barbera with black cherry, brown spices, violets, and a finishing sweet orange note. Silky-soft tannins make this an excellent sipper while vibrant acidity makes it work with a bunch of dishes. - Marcus

Cantina del Pino Barbaresco Ovello 2013
-- VERY LIMITED
$67.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
($74.95 regular)
97 points Wine Spectator: "This pretty red offers delicate flavors and subtle power, evoking flowers, red berry, mineral, tobacco and tar on the nose and palate. Firmly structured, this remains harmonious and long on the mineral- and tobacco-tinged finish. Best from 2020 through 2036."

I'm looking forward to helping you with an order. Thanks for reading and for your support!
