New Italian Favorites—Big Scores, Big Thumbs Up

We've had our eyes on today's new arrivals for...months! With slower logistics from Italy to Oregon, our thirst for these couldn't have been greater and yesterday, we finally got them in our glasses. How much do we like them? How about new favorite Chianti Classico and Barbera territory—that's how much!

Two of the three new arrivals come with huge scores from master Italian reviewer Antonio Galloni: Le Cinciole's Chianti Classico 2018 (93+ points) and earth-shattering Petresco (98 points). The latter is something you should snatch up immediately as there are only 3 cases available.

Make sure to read all the way to the bottom for our new dollar-to-dollar favorite Barbera d'Alba from Giacomo Fenocchio. It's magnificent. Saluté to your Friday!

$24.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($26.95 regular)

93+ points Vinous, Antonio Galloni: "The 2018 Chianti Classico is a wine of magnificent purity and class. Lavender, sage, tobacco and cedar open first, leading to a core of dark red/purplish fruit. Savory and earthy, with terrific persistence, the 2018 has so much going on. Readers will find a deep, layered Chianti Classico full of character. The 2018 will benefit from a few years in bottle, as it is a bit tight at this stage."

Us: Does this live up to its review? Absolutely! And after tasting Le Cinciole's Chianti Classico '18 yesterday I'll say it exceeds the review in the drinkability department. We popped and poured it for lunch—simply a beautiful bottle of wine and an excellent value. New favorite Chianti/Sangiovese territory here!

$54.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($62.95 regular)

98 points Vinous, Antonio Galloni: "The 2017 Petresco is a stunning, utterly captivating wine. In a vintage that produced so many rich, opulent reds, Petresco is vertical in build and endowed with tremendous energy. Black cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, licorice and dried flowers open with a bit of coaxing. All the elements are so well balanced. The purity of the fruit is breathtaking. What a wine!"

Us: We can't/won't hype this more than the above review already does, since there are only 3 cases total. But after enjoying a glass yesterday I can say holy smokes, it is gorgeous!

$21.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($23.95 regular)

Talk about Superior-e! Dollar-for-dollar my favorite Barbera. The marriage of deep ruby Barbera fruit with striking silkiness makes this a total winner. Nearly limitless food pairings—yesterday I loved a glass with a chicory salad for lunch—and last night I sipped a glass for the pure, rich, delicious flavor of it.
