New Highly Rated Barolo, Barbaresco

It is fully Barolo and Barbaresco season! What better way to celebrate than with the arrival of the big time customer favorite Adriano Barbaresco Basarin, with it's stellar Wine Spectator 94 for the history-in-the-making 2016 vintage.

And there's so little of the last three wines that we shouldn't even call attention to them. A top Barolo and two top Barbarescos, with 95s and 96s, they're going to fly!

94 points Wine Spectator, Highly Recommended: "Aromas of rose, cherry, strawberry and white pepper draw you in, while vibrant acidity and a lacy texture carry the fruit flavors, adding tobacco and earth details. A solid base of tannins provides support. This should come together nicely. Best from 2022 through 2038."

$75.55 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($83.95 regular)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Macerated cherry, floral, licorice, mineral and Asian spice flavors highlight this firmly structured red. Taut and balanced, with plenty in reserve, building to a long, detailed finish. Best from 2022 through 2045."

94+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni: "Even today, its balance is simply impeccable. Within the context of the year, the 2015 Baudana is one of the most polished, refined wines readers will taste."

$39.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($43.95 regular)

95+ points Vinous, Antonio Galloni: "The 2016 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is dark, dense, powerful and super expressive. Black cherry, mocha, leather, licorice and menthol are some of the many notes that take shape in a Barbaresco that is bursting with energy. Chalk, orange peel, dried flowers and mint add layers of nuance as the wine opens up in the glass. This brooding, potent Barbaresco needs time to be at its best, but it is clearly a great wine in the making."

$39.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($43.95 regular)

96 points Vinous, Antonio Galloni: "The 2016 Barbaresco Montestefano is simply magnificent. Bright floral overtones and red/purplish berry fruit give the Montestefano a feeling of focus and explosive energy that is compelling. Hints of mocha, leather, smoke, lavender and a whole range of balsamic inflections open up in the glass, revealing a Barbaresco of power, structure and complexity. Ample in feel and yet wonderfully vibrant, the Montestefano is wonderfully complete. It is also one of the very best wines I have ever tasted from La Ca' Nova. The Montestefano is a bit more showy today than the Montefico, but both wines are remarkable."
