Washington juggernaut K Vintners is no stranger to high scores. But even the K team might have raised an eyebrow when The Wine Advocate's annual report on Washington was published Friday. Two of K's flagship reds earned their highest scores ever: 97 points for The Creator and 96 points for The Boy Grenache.Big reds fans will love these blockbusters! K Vintners The Creator 2015
$53.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order
97 points Wine Advocate:"The 2015 The Creator is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah, but even though it's in the minority, the Syrah seems to define the wine's personality. The bouquet wafts from the glass with notes of grilled meat, bay leaf and ripe blackberries and mulberries. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and layered, with immense depth and concentration, its ample core of fruit largely concealing an abundant endowment of fine-grained, ripe tannins. Despite its scale, it eschews extractive excess, and it should be well worth following for the next 15-20 years."
$44.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($49.95 regular)
96 points Wine Advocate:"Translucent ruby in hue, the 2015 The Boy is superb, wafting from the glass with aromas of Griotte cherry, rose hip, licorice and kirsch. On the palate, it's full-bodied, satiny and expansive, with beautifully refined tannins, superb concentration and a long, lingeringly fragrant finish. Reminiscent of a top vintage of Emmanuel Reynaud's Château des Tours, this belongs on any short list of the best Grenache being produced in North America."
More blockbusters from K Vintners, rated by the excellent Jeb Dunnuck, formerly of The Wine Advocate and now the proprietor of JebDunnuck.com:
95 points JebDunnuck.com:"The 2015 Syrah River Rock is another rock star Syrah from this estate and it's just about overflowing with Rocks character. Currants, smoked herbs, olive brine and some peaty notes all give way to a ripe, concentrated, seamless beauty that has loads of charm and character. With fine tannin and a layered style, it will keep for 10-15 years.
$35.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($39.95 regular)
94 points JebDunnuck.com:"It offers crazy notes of smoke tobacco, charcoal, ripe black cherries, currants, and pepper. With medium to full-bodied richness, a lively, pure, pretty style on the palate, and fine tannin, it should put on weight with 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for a decade."
