New and Brilliant Evesham Wood
You know our fondness for Evesham Wood. As much as it might benefit us if the rest of the world remained in the dark about their spectacular wines and legendary value prices, we are stoked to see another round of recognition for the amazing work of winemaker Erin Nuccio.
Burgundy master-reviewer Allen Meadows, AKA Burghound, published a round of Oregon reviews and again, Evesham Wood took top honors. Their organically grown estate Pinot noir, Le Puits Sec 2015, got a huge 93.
Keeping in mind that Burghound's scores tend to be very conservative (92-95 points for $400 Grand Cru Burgs from legendary producers, for example), 93 is indeed huge. And as Burghound says, it's hard to find comparable quality at the price point.
Evesham Wood Le Puits Sec Pinot noir 2015
$35.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($39.95 regular)
93 points Burghound: "A more restrained nose features notes of briar, red and
dark berries along with whiffs of Asian-style tea and orange peel. There is once again good vibrancy to the beautifully delineated and somewhat denser medium weight flavors that possess good power that really comes up on the notably more structured, powerful and longer finish. As is usually the case with this wine, it is robust and bold yet not really rustic. I would again point out that it's hard to find comparable quality at the price point. 93/2025+"
Not reviewed since they're brand new release but always favorites of ours...
Evesham Wood Le Grive Bleue Pinot noir 2016
$25.15 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($27.95 regular)
Like Le Puits Sec, this certified organically grown Pinot noir, from 20 year-old vines, is an amazing value. Always the most youthfully attractive Evesham Pinot, this steps up that profile even more with an aromatic fireworks display, popping perfect fruit perfume, spring flowers, and that classic Evesham scent. With only four barrels produced (less than 100 cases), this wine only leaves Oregon by way of a FedEx or UPS truck, so let us help secure your stash. A brilliant vintage for Le Grive Bleue, not to be missed! - Marcus
Evesham Wood Le Puits Sec Chardonnay 2016
$28.75 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($31.95 regular)
An early contender for Andy's Chardonnay of the vintage, this solidifies the case that Erin Nuccio is one of the best Chardonnay winemakers in the New World. For all the attention that Evesham Pinots receive, it can be easier to overlook this stunning estate-grown Chardonnay, especially since there were only two barrels produced. Electric from start to finish, pulsing with citrus, pear, sea air, and hazelnut. As Erin notes, this wine is so good it confirms that the recently cleared acre above La Grive Bleue will be planted to Chardonnay. - Marcus and Andy
