Mark Ryan: At the Top of Their Game
The Mark Ryan team is making easily
some of the best red wines in Washington and moreover, on the West Coast. In our opinion, they're at the top of their game.
Today, a couple of stalwart new releases and a couple of blockbuster favorites, all with fresh reviews from last week's Wine Advocate annual Washington report. Mark Ryan The Dissident 2014

Mark Ryan Crazy Mary Mourvedre 2014
91-93 points Wine Advocate: The entry-level Bordeaux blend (which is as good as many estate top wines) is the 2014 The Dissident, and it will be another great value in 2014. My notes start with "screaming deal" and it shows lots of Cabernet character (cassis, lead pencil, hints of flowers), medium to full-bodied richness, superb purity and a great finish. Buy it by the case."
As it says, Dissident stands shoulder-to-shoulder with many wineries' flagship wines, for far fewer dollars. The '14 is especially solid, with plush black fruits that cascade through the finish. - M&A
$43.15 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($47.95 regular)
92-95 points Wine Advocate: "Another 2014 that got a big "wow" in the notes is the 2014 Mourvedre Crazy Mary, which offers classic Mourvèdre notes of blueberries, white pepper and spiced meats in a medium to full-bodied, balanced and again, incredibly pure package. It has ripe tannin and while it will be approachable on release, I suspect it will be at its finest from 2019-2029."
New to Mourvedre? This is the wine to check out! Packed with blue and black fruits and spices, this wine is already rocking. - M&A
Mark Ryan Dead Horse 2013
$49.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($54.95 regular)
94 points Wine Advocate: "It's a quintessential Red Mountain Cabernet with its crème de cassis, graphite, crushed rock-like minerality and spring flower-driven profile. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless, with incredibly polished tannin, it shows the prettier side to the region, will benefit from short-term cellaring, and have two decades of overall longevity."
The wine that started it all, fresh off a great review and really beginning to open up. - M&A
Mark Ryan Lonely Heart Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
$85.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($94.95 regular)
95 points Wine Advocate: "The flagship cuvee is the 2013 Lonely Heart Cabernet Sauvignon, which is an old vine Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend that includes a tiny splash of Merlot and Petit Verdot. Aged 21 months in 79% new French oak, it's a full-bodied, incredibly polished, elegant 2013 that has lots of red and black currants, graphite, toasted spice, and lead pencil aromas and flavors. There's a satin-like texture to the tannin, it has solid mid-palate depth and a great finish, all suggesting it will be long lived. Give bottles 3-4 years and enjoy over the following two decades."
By far one of our favorite Washington Cabs of the last year (or more), we'd give it one or two more points... - M&A
