Longing for Piedmont: Ca del Baio's Outstanding Line Up

We're longing for a return to Italy's Piedmont region...the beautiful vistas, the exquisite pastas and meats, the lovely people and the wines they grow and make. A visit will happen sooner than later but while we wait and plan, we can still celebrate one of our favorite Piemontese wineries, Barbaresco's Ca del Baio. Simply put, we love the wines and the people. Today's offer features the greatest breadth of Ca del Baio wines we've showcased: three Barbarescos, Barbera, Dolcetto, two Nebbiolos, Chardonnay, and even a Moscato--they're all excellent wines and outstanding values.

94 points Wine Spectator: "There's a sappy, old-vine character to this red, featuring intense cherry, strawberry and floral aromas and flavors. Accents of wild herbs, iron and tobacco add depth as this plays out on the lingering finish, showing excellent balance and length. Best from 2024 through 2038."

A special release, celebrating the Grasso family's 30th harvest from Asili, the 2018 is a velvety masterpiece. Ca del Baio's style makes this so attractive already, with a caressing depth of fruit blanketing its structure. Asili is one of the world's great vineyards and the value that Ca del Baio delivers in their Asili is astounding. By the way–the Piemontese drink young Barbaresco all the time so don't be afraid to do the same!

Lovely black cherry, mint, and crushed spices set off this structured Barbaresco. Decant for drinking now and pair with a rich stew (we suggest rabbit!) or hold for a few years. Baio's most traditionally-styled Barbaresco, Vallegrande is the vineyard surrounding the winery.

Autinbej evokes a bygone era when such wines were the union of Nebbiolo grapes from the best, sunniest parts of different crus. Autinbej is a tribute to Giulio Grasso's late father, Ernesto, who often used the Piemontese word to describe the best vineyard exposures. With great fruit and energy, Autinbej is already tasty so go ahead!

Delicious, refreshing, stainless-steel fermented Chardonnay.
Fresh, fruity and refreshing with excellent Chard character and just-right mineral flourish. The grapes for this quaffer are picked in early September which reminds the Grasso family of summer. Excellent with baked and grilled white fish or a salad of spring lettuces.
