It's Merlottime: 96-point Pedestal and Sheridan Last Call
It's Merlotime! thanks to a recent taste of Pedestal 2015, which blew our collective doors off, and the realization that we're down to the last handful of cases of Sheridan's righteous value.
We've all seen the movie and we know the line about not wanting to taste any ______ Merlot. Time to shelve that next to Paul Giamatti's career as a romantic lead -- we are taking back one of the world's great grapes with help from two of Washington's finest.
96 points Jeb Dunnuck (our favorite Washington wine critic):"The 2015 Pedestal Merlot from Long Shadows is a blend of 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot aged 22 months in 85% new French oak barrels. Crème de cassis, wood smoke, scorched earth, and graphite characteristics all emerge from this rich, full-bodied, voluptuous beauty that has more mid-palate depth and richness than any other Merlot made in the state. With ample tannin, it will benefit from a year or three and keep for 15. It's a gorgeous wine."
If you love the grape, you can think of this as Merlot. If you still need convincing, you can think of this as one of Washington's best Bordeaux blends. However you think of it, we can say this after a recent re-tasting: Pedestal '15 is absolutely, mind-blowingly delicious and we put the 2015 up as the best since 2008. For the instant-gratification crowd, it drinks beautifully already; for the cellarers, it has more than enough goods to age for a decade. Highly recommended by us. - Marcus
And last call for Sheridan's fantastic value Merlot:
$23.35 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($25.95 regular)
Another stunning value from Sheridan; it's hard to believe such serious, estate-grown and bottled wine exists for this coin. Five barrels of love, pure love, spreading smiles with its voluptuous black cherries and plums, and a perfect cocoa-dusted finish. Can you handle the truth?! Once we were done tasting it at the shop, I am proud to say I took the bottle home and crushed it with a burger off my grill. We are down to the last few cases -- get your Merlot love on today! You will thank us, we promise! - Marcus
