At some point, every wine lover opens his last bottle of a coveted wine, smacks himself on the head, and says, "I should've bought more!"
That was me last week when I cracked my last bottle of Ca del Baio Vallegrande 2004. So damn good! It prompted me to drink a bottle of the current vintage, 2013, which reminded me of everything I loved about the 2004. Vowing never to repeat the same mistake, I have my box of 2013 in the cellar for future dinners...
Now that I have my stash of 2013 covered, I can wholeheartedly recommend that you add some to your collection. I maintain that Vallegrande is one of the best values from Piedmont and for that matter, the world of wine. For any fan of Italian wine, I recommend it without reservation. But hurry...there's not much left and I'm not giving mine up!

I made my pilgrimage to Vallegrande in 2010, but this wine occupied a special place in my wine heart long before. It was Avalon's first success story branching out from Pacific Northwest wines. But how is it?
Positively gorgeous! Classic, stately Barbaresco, showcasing the elegant side of Nebbiolo with mesmerizing dried rose, brown spices, licorice and red fruits. Supple enough to enjoy now with the right dinner (a ragu of chicken and Italian roasting peppers for me) and structured enough to be loved a decade from now.
At right, my last bottle of '04, opened at Nostrana the other night.
I'm looking forward to helping you with an order. Thanks for your support!
