The hottest days of summer aren't necessarily the times we focus on the finest red wine, but there are simply too many outstanding, limited production Pinots entirely deserving of our attention. As such, here's a best-of the last couple weeks -- Willamette Valley wonders that are too fantastic to miss.
Quintessential Willamette Valley Pinot rarely exists at this price. When it does, there is only one thing to do: grab it with a quickness. This spectacular value offers everything we want: beautiful, perfumed red fruits, a creamy texture, outstanding freshness and lift. Thoroughly exceptional wine and (yes, saying it again) value. 280 cases made, which I don't expect to last long. - Marcus
$49.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($54.95 regular)
As great as the Willamette Valley bottling is, this is staggeringly better. Sweetly expressive, aromatic and perfumed, densely packed with flavor, purely silken, mouthwateringly fresh, the essence of oh dear that's amazing, which is exactly what I wrote in the middle of a descriptive sentence of my tasting notes except "dear" was something less proper. This cannot come more highly recommended. Only 70 cases made and as previously advised, get on board! - Marcus
Brick House's masterpiece Pinot, 25% off through the end of August
A beautiful vintage of Evelyn's, epitomizing Brick House's Pinot noir house style of classy finesse. Deep, super-inviting aromas lead to layers of silky fruit. A showstopper already -- I've enjoyed two bottles this month already! -- and with more than enough goods to age 8-10 years. A best of the best blend, made only in the finest vintages, Evelyn's is named in honor of Brick House founder/winemaker Doug Tunnell's mother. - Marcus
Last Call for Purple Hands' stunner of a single vineyard Pinot
94 points Wine Spectator Insider:"Seamless and seductive, with expressive rose petal, black raspberry and orange zest accents that build elegance and complexity on a lingering finish. Drink now through 2023."
One of most exquisite Pinots of the year, and one of the most limited...Hope Well
A stunning wine from Mimi Casteel, sourced from her consciously-farmed Hope Well vineyard. A graceful, cellar-worthy, positively exquisite gem of Pinot noir. One of my top wines from the 2016 vintage but it is so incredibly limited that we've had to be secretive about it. I will gladly tell you more...but you might have to ask. - Marcus
